The Plateau State Police Command has reinforced security in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area following a deadly attack on the Nding community in the Fan District that left two people dead and three others injured.

The command said the incident occurred late Tuesday night when suspected gunmen invaded the community and opened fire on residents.

According to police, the victims—four women and a nine-year-old boy—were attacked while sitting outside their homes. Two of them lost their lives, while three other women sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at a General Hospital.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Bassey Ewah, condemned the attack, describing it as senseless and deeply unfortunate.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, the police boss extended condolences to the families of the victims and members of the Nding Susut community.

The statement noted that a team of officers led by the Divisional Police Officer in Barkin Ladi was promptly deployed to the scene after the incident was reported, adding that the situation has since been brought under control.

To forestall further violence and reassure residents, the Commissioner ordered the deployment of additional tactical units, including mobile police personnel and other specialised teams, to the affected area.

The police said the move is aimed at boosting patrols, improving intelligence gathering, and ensuring swift response to any emerging threats.

It also disclosed that security agencies are working closely with community leaders to track down those responsible for the attack and bring them to justice.

Investigations are ongoing, with efforts intensified to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.

The Commissioner of Police assured residents of Barkin Ladi and the wider Plateau State of the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging citizens to remain calm and law-abiding.

He also called on the public to support security agencies with credible information that could aid the investigation and arrest of those behind the attack.
