POLICE DISMANTLES CRIMINAL SYNDICATES, RECOVERS 134 FIREARMS, 1012 AMMUNITION OF VARIOUS CALIBERS, RESCUES 302 KIDNAPPED VICTIMS
As evidence of the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to adopting improved strategies in the fight against crime, the Force has made significant progress in curbing criminal activities across the country. Notable achievements include the arrest of 179 armed robbery suspects, 100 kidnapping suspects, 152 murder/homicide suspects, 34 individuals involved in the unlawful possession of prohibited firearms, 77 rape suspects, and 110 suspected cultists. Additionally, the Police recovered 73 firearms of various types, along with 310 rounds of ammunition. The Force also managed to recover 56 stolen vehicles and rescue 22 kidnapping victims nationwide.
During a press briefing at the FID-IRT headquarters on January 22, 2024, Nigeria Police operatives highlighted several key accomplishments. These included the arrest of Muhammed Kabir, 36, and other members of his gang, such as Donald Okpere and Haruna Ibrahim.
This gang was involved in impersonating military personnel to defraud victims of millions of naira by using fake alerts after purchasing gadgets and medical equipment. Additionally, the operatives arrested Sunday Okwo Ade, Monday Solomon, David Emmanuel, and Shakiru Badmus, who were part of a notorious gang specializing in stealing motorcycles from farmers in Lagos and Ogun States. The gang was responsible for stealing 15 motorcycles, all of which were recovered.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, reiterated the Force’s unwavering commitment to its core principle of protecting the lives and properties of citizens while creating a peaceful environment for the public to go about their daily activities. He assured that the Force will continue its relentless pursuit of criminal elements, ensuring justice is served in accordance with the laws of the country.
