
INTERNET USAGE JUMPED TO 973,455 TERABYTES IN DECEMBER – NCC
In December 2024, Nigeria’s internet usage reached 973,455 terabytes, marking a 36.5% year-on-year increase from 713,200 terabytes recorded in December 2023. This consumption equals approximately 998.79 million gigabytes.
The data, released by the Nigerian Communications Commission on Friday, also revealed a 10.75% increase in internet usage from November to December 2024.
Internet subscriptions rose to 139.28 million in December, up from 136.54 million in November.
Broadband penetration stood at 44.43% by the end of the year, which fell short of the 70% target set under Nigeria’s National Broadband Plan (2020–2025), which expires this year.
At the close of 2024, Nigeria had 164.9 million active telecommunications subscribers, down from 224.7 million the previous year.
MTN Nigeria, the country’s largest telecom operator, increased its market share to 51%, growing its subscriber base to 84.6 million in December from 81.2 million in November.
Airtel Nigeria’s customer base grew to 56.6 million, up from 55.4 million, while Globacom, which had faced regulatory challenges earlier in the year, gained 500,000 subscribers, reaching 20.1 million.
9mobile held a 1.99% market share, ending the year with 3.2 million subscribers.
