An Ekiti State Chief Magistrate Court, Ado Ekiti District on Monday, ordered the remand of a 36-year-old man, Samuel Bankole, at the Correctional Centre in Ado Ekiti for being a serial offender who had jumped bail earlier granted to him.

The defendant, who was arraigned in court by the police command in Ekiti, was alleged to have obtained the sum of N700,000 under false pretence that he would assist one Olarenwaju Are to help him purchase a vehicle.

The prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that “the defendant committed the offences at about 12 pm on February 20”.

He urged the court to “remand him in the custodial centre because he is a serial offender, who may jump bail, having such experience in the past.

“The offence committed is contrary to and punishable under Section 329 Laws of Ekiti State of Nigeria 2021 and under Section 181(1)(d) Laws of Ekiti State of Nigeria 2021,” he stated.

Counsel to the defendant, E. O. Olowolafe urged the court to grant his client bail in liberal terms.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abayomi Adeosun, refused the bail application and ordered the defendant to be remanded in the correctional centre.

The Chief magistrate adjourned the case till April 3 for hearing.
