The Lagos State Government has announced a comprehensive traffic diversion plan in preparation for emergency repairs on the Oworonshoki/Third Axial Bridge. The maintenance project is scheduled to commence on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, and conclude on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, spanning a total of 110 days.

According to the statement, the repair work will be carried out in eight phases, affecting both inbound and outbound lanes of the bridge. Phases 1 to 4 will cover the inbound section heading towards the Third Mainland Bridge, running from May 6 to July 14 (50 days). Phases 5 to 8, which will affect the outbound section, will take place from July 15 to September 23 (51 days).

During the first four phases, motorists traveling from Oworonshoki towards Victoria Island and other parts of Lagos will be diverted 50 meters before the work zone and rejoin their regular route 50 meters after the affected area.

Motorists coming from the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway are advised to take alternative routes. They can go through the Ojota Slip Road to Ikorodu Road, then turn at Anthony to access Oshodi via the Taxi Park ramp. Another option is to connect through Town Planning Way to Anthony, and then proceed through Gbagada to access the Third Mainland Bridge.

Alternatively, those heading to Victoria Island from Mowe and nearby areas can use Funsho Williams Avenue to connect to Eko Bridge. From Ikeja, motorists are advised to use Maryland to Ikorodu Road, then continue via Eko Bridge/Outer Marina.

Once the outbound phase begins, from July 15, vehicles traveling out of the island toward the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway via the bridge will also be diverted 50 meters before and after the repair zones.

For those heading from Victoria Island to Alapere, Ketu, or Ikorodu, the recommended route is through Eko Bridge to Funsho Williams Avenue, and then through Ikorodu Road toward Ojota/Ketu. Travelers bound for Mowe and environs should also use the Abiola Garden Ramp after linking Ikorodu Road.

The Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, has assured the public that LASTMA officials will be deployed across affected areas to manage traffic and ease road congestion during the repair period.

He urged motorists to be patient and cooperative, noting that the partial bridge closure is necessary for the replacement of damaged expansion joints. The repair works are being supervised by the Lagos State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure through its Office of Infrastructure.
