MORNING FIRE OUTBREAK LEVELS STALLS AND GOODS IN JOS TERMINUS MARKET
A fire outbreak in the early hours of Wednesday has ravaged parts of the well-known Terminus Market in Jos, Plateau State.
The blaze, which took many traders by surprise, burned throughout the night, destroying hundreds of stalls and reducing goods to rubble.
An eyewitness, who chose to remain anonymous, reported that the fire originated in the section of the market where second-hand clothes are sold before spreading quickly to other areas.
At the time of this report, the cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
Firefighters responded shortly after the fire began but struggled to bring the flames under control due to its intensity.
Many traders and business owners were left devastated, some seen in tears as they helplessly watched their investments go up in smoke.
Several victims shared their heartbreak, revealing that they had just restocked their shops with new goods before losing everything in the incident.
Security forces were deployed to the market to manage the growing crowd and prevent any potential looting, as tensions remained high among traders and sympathizers.
Authorities have not yet released an official statement, though the Plateau State government is expected to initiate an investigation into the incident.
In the meantime, those affected are urgently appealing for assistance and relief to help mitigate the impact of their losses.
Aminu Bala who was in tears, said, “We need government intervention urgently”.
Another victim who simply gave his name as Adamu, said, “I am finished”.
