The Oyo State Government on Tuesday sealed 15 veterinary outlets in Ibadan and confiscated goods worth millions of naira for violating the state’s Private Veterinary Premises and Veterinary Establishment (Regulation) Law, 2017.

The state Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Olasunkanmi Olaleye, disclosed this in a statement issued in Ibadan. He said the enforcement exercise was carried out after routine inspections revealed that the affected outlets were operating without mandatory registration.

Speaking through the Deputy Director of Veterinary Services, Olaoye Olakunle, the commissioner said the crackdown was aimed at safeguarding animal health, ensuring food safety, and protecting public health from the risks posed by unregulated veterinary practices.

“Under the 2017 law, all veterinary premises and practitioners in the state are required to register with the government annually for proper monitoring and control,” Olaleye stated.

He warned that defaulters would face legal consequences, stressing that the exercise is ongoing and will continue until full compliance is achieved across the state.

The commissioner urged all private veterinary practitioners to regularize their operations by ensuring their premises are duly registered with the Ministry, in accordance with the law.

The enforcement team included key stakeholders such as the Chairman of the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association, John Famoyin; President of the Association of Private Veterinary Medical Practitioners, Awoyele Adebayo; and other top officials in the veterinary sector.
