The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised alarm over the prolonged absence of Governor Ademola Adeleke from the state, accusing him of leaving without formal notice for over two weeks.
In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by its spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, the APC described the governor’s disappearance as “abnormal” and questioned who has been managing the affairs of the state in his absence.
“The question being asked in hushed tones in some public places, inside commercial buses and by motorcycle riders and their passengers in the state, is where could be the whereabouts of their governor for this long?” the statement read.
The party demanded clarification on whether Governor Adeleke had formally transmitted power to his deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi, as required by the constitution.
The APC further claimed that internal findings revealed the governor had quietly exited the state following an alleged failed attempt to defect to the ruling party. “Our check has confirmed that Governor Adeleke left the state unannounced about two weeks ago, when he failed in his effort to defect to the opposition APC,” it added.
In response to the concerns, the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, confirmed that Adeleke had travelled to the United States to attend the wedding of his nephew, global music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.
“Governor Adeleke left Nigeria for the United States via the family’s private jet a few days ago for the wedding of the global music icon, his beloved nephew, David Adeleke,” Rasheed stated.
He extended an invitation to the opposition party to join the celebration, saying, “Those unable to attend may join virtually.”
Rasheed emphasized that the trip was not an official vacation and assured citizens that state governance remains uninterrupted. “The Governor is in constant communication with his deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi, who is supervising activities of the government,” he said.
He also noted that Governor Adeleke has not taken any official vacation since assuming office in November 2022 and is expected to return shortly to resume his duties fully.
