The Nigerian Army has confirmed that the explosion and fire outbreak that occurred on Thursday at Ilese Barracks, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, have been brought under control.
Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Lt. Col. Appolonia Anele, in a statement, said the incident happened in the early hours of August 14, 2025, within a storage building of the 42 Engineers Brigade Counter-Improvised Explosive Device Squadron.
She explained that the localized explosion led to a limited fire outbreak, which was swiftly contained through the combined efforts of troops from the 12 Field Engineer Regiment and the Ijebu-Ode Fire Service.
“No lives were lost, and no injuries were sustained. The structural damage was confined to the affected building and some stored materials,” Anele stated.
She added that a detailed assessment was underway to determine the extent of material loss, while urging residents of Ilese and nearby communities to remain calm and go about their normal activities.
The Army, in collaboration with relevant agencies, has launched a thorough investigation to ascertain the cause of the incident and prevent a recurrence.
