Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have arrested a notorious kidnap kingpin, Okon Asuquo Udo, who had been on the run for several months over his alleged involvement in a string of high-profile abductions in the state.
The command’s spokesperson, Timfon John, in a statement on Sunday, said the suspect, a native of Ube village in Okobo Local Government Area, was apprehended in his hometown following credible intelligence.
According to the police, Udo, who had long been on the command’s wanted list, is a principal suspect in the abduction of a Paramount Ruler in October 2024 and the kidnap of the wife of an Executive Chairman in November 2024. He is also believed to have participated in several other kidnapping operations across Oron, Mbo, and Okobo Local Government Areas.
“The suspect was sighted and arrested in his home village after being on the run for several months,” the statement read.
John added that discreet investigations are ongoing to track down other members of the gang and recover their operational weapons.
