NASARAWA POLICE ARREST NOTORIOUS KIDNAPPER ‘ZOMO’, BUST 10-MAN SYNDICATE
Agency Report
Operatives of the Nasarawa State Police Command have arrested a notorious kidnapper and armed robbery kingpin, Mohammed Bammi, popularly known as Zomo, in Doma Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Ramhan Nansel, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, noting that Zomo, who had earlier evaded arrest when his gang members were apprehended last month, was captured during a clearance operation at Doka forest.
“During the operation, eagle-eyed operatives spotted him. In a desperate bid to escape, he drew a knife to attack the officers but was swiftly subdued and arrested,” Nansel stated.
The suspect later led detectives to the gang’s hideout in Alagye village, where security operatives recovered arms, ammunition, and uniforms. Items recovered included one pump-action rifle (Breech No. P331551), one locally made AK-47 rifle with magazine, two live ammunition, five cartridges, a knife, a rope, two Tecno phones, and a pair of NSCDC uniforms.
In a separate sting operation, undercover operatives raided Gidan Taku village in Awe LGA and arrested five suspected members of a 10-man kidnapping syndicate. The suspects identified as Michael Ato, Richard Ato, Alom Bernard, Hangior Ato, and Jacob Hunde, also known as Okocha were linked to the abduction of a woman, Blessing John.
According to the statement, “Two locally fabricated AK-47 rifles and one live ammunition were recovered from them.” Investigations further revealed that the same gang abducted the victim’s husband, John Ada Kuje, in April 2024, before releasing him after ransom was paid.
Nansel confirmed that all suspects had been transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for further investigation.
Commending the operatives for the breakthrough, the Commissioner of Police, Shetima Mohammed, urged officers to sustain the crackdown on criminals until Nasarawa is rid of kidnappers and armed robbers.
