The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested nine suspects and recovered 4,264 rounds of ammunition in a series of operations across the state’s 13 Local Government Areas.
The State Commissioner of Police, Shetima Mohammed, disclosed this during a press briefing on Tuesday at the command’s headquarters in Lafia.
Highlighting a major breakthrough, Mohammed revealed that operatives intercepted a cache of firearms and ammunition in Keana Local Government Area.
“On September 7, 2025, at about 1830hrs, acting on credible intelligence, suspected gun runners from Benue State were sighted in a forest bordering Kadarko, Keana LGA, offloading arms for criminal distribution. I personally led a team to the scene. On sighting our operatives, the suspects abandoned their luggage and fled,” he said.
Recovered exhibits include four AK-49 rifles, three AK-47 rifles, one G3 rifle, one submachine gun, 11 magazines, 4,046 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, 11 rounds of 5.5mm ammunition, 132 rounds of 38mm ammunition, and 75 cartridges.
In a separate operation on September 6, police arrested one John Paul from the Federal Capital Territory along the Akwanga-Wamba Motor Park while he was en route to Abuja. Five locally fabricated rifles were found in his possession.
Similarly, on August 31, operatives attached to the ‘E’ Division in Shabu arrested two suspected gun manufacturers, James Philip and Alpha Philip, in Lafia LGA. Further investigation led to the arrest of four alleged buyers and distributors: Usman Abubakar, Yakubu Danladi, Usman Kasimu (alias Bobo), and Abdullahi Adamu.
Items recovered from the suspects include 13 long-range single-barrel guns, 10 short guns, one revolver, three swords, police uniforms and a face cap, three gun-manufacturing machines, and criminal charms.
Commending his officers, CP Mohammed assured residents of the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks in the state.
“I urge everyone to remain vigilant, law-abiding, and supportive of security agencies through timely information sharing,” he said.
The briefing comes days after the command foiled an attempted trafficking of three children in the Mararaba area of Karu LGA, where a 22-year-old suspect, Aisha Hashiru, was arrested at the Orange Market.
