TIWA SAVAGE URGES AFROBEATS ARTISTS TO STAY HUMBLE: ‘GOD CAN USE ANYONE’

BY OWOLABI OLUWADARA
Afrobeats artist Tiwa Savage has encouraged her peers to remain humble, emphasizing that they are merely representatives of the genre’s movement.
The ‘Malo’ creator urged Afrobeats musicians not to allow popularity and wealth to corrupt their character, noting that they could easily be replaced.
She cautioned that it is far more detrimental to lose one’s status than to be an emerging artist.
In a recent interview with Hot 97 FM in New York, Savage stated, “We are merely representatives; we are just the public faces of Afrobeats. Consequently, we must not allow it to cloud our judgment because we are simply instruments, and there can always be someone else to take our place.
“God can remove it in an instant. Therefore, it is essential to remain grounded and modest. Imagine reaching this level of success only to decline. That is far worse than never experiencing fame at all. I would prefer to have never seen it than to have seen it and lost it. That is more painful to me.
“For me, having experienced this success, I must maintain a humble demeanor. This is for God’s sake. ”
The artist further shared her admiration for several of her contemporaries.
“I am a huge fan of Ayra Starr; it’s almost an obsession. I see reflections of myself in her, yet she embodies a greater sense of confidence; when I was starting out, if I came across an article criticizing the length of my skirt, I might choose trousers next time. However, Ayra would opt for an even shorter skirt on her next appearance. I admire her self-assurance.
“I appreciate the air of mystery surrounding Tems. There is little known about her, and she seems unconcerned by that. I also admire Diamond Platnumz from Tanzania; he is incredibly talented and has successfully brought attention to his community. ”
