POLICE CONFIRM CUSTODY OF SELF-KIDNAP SUSPECT FROM ARMY IN ANAMBRA

The Police Command in Anambra has apprehended a 38-year-old individual who purportedly orchestrated his own abduction, with the assistance of personnel from the 302 Artillery Regiment of the Nigerian Army in Onitsha.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, affirmed this development in a statement issued on Tuesday in Awka.

Ikenga indicated that preliminary inquiries indicated that on August 15, the suspect engineered his own kidnapping and transmitted a text message to his relatives, demanding a ransom of ₦20 million for his alleged liberation.

He further noted that on September 15, the police officially received the suspect from the army for continued investigation.

“The suspect allegedly staged his own kidnap to extort money from his family members.

“Acting on a technology-driven intelligence, he was arrested in his hideout in Rivers” he stated.

He assured the public of the command’s thorough investigation to guarantee that justice is upheld.
