POLICE ARREST 120 SUSPECTS FOR ARMED ROBBERY, MURDER, RAPE, DRUG OFFENCES IN KATSINA

The Katsina State Police Command has arrested 120 suspects for various crimes, including armed robbery, culpable homicide, rape, and possession of illicit drugs, as part of intensified efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, disclosed this during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters in Katsina on Tuesday, noting that the arrests were made across different operations aimed at ensuring a safer Katsina State.
According to Sadiq, the Command recorded significant progress in tackling major crimes during the period under review.
“Here are five major crimes we’ve tackled, along with the number of suspects arrested: armed robbery – 18 suspects; culpable homicide/murder – 28 suspects; attempted homicide – 5 suspects; rape and unnatural offences 20 suspects; possession of illicit drugs – 28 suspects,” he said.
He added that 97 cases have been charged to court, while 22 remain under investigation.
In addition, the police successfully rescued 47 kidnapped victims and 39 victims of human trafficking, reuniting them with their families.
The Command also recovered a cache of weapons and stolen property, including one AK-47 rifle, one locally made gun, 183 rounds of live ammunition, three vehicles (a Golf, Toyota Corolla, and Toyota RAV4), a tricycle, four motorcycles, and 201 rustled animals comprising 76 cows and 27 sheep.
Other exhibits recovered include 131 packs of illicit drugs 82 bottles of fentanyl injection, 56 sachets of Exol, 61 wraps of suspected cannabis, 13 pregabalin tablets, and one sachet of tramadol—as well as 100 metres of vandalised high-tension cables.
While commending the efforts of officers and the cooperation of residents, Sadiq emphasised that the Command remained resolute in its mission to maintain law and order.
“Despite these modest achievements, more work needs to be done. We pledge to redouble our efforts and build on these successes to make Katsina State an even safer place for all,” he said.
The police spokesperson also warned the public against spreading fake news, stressing that misinformation could endanger lives and undermine security operations.
“We cannot stress enough the dangers of propagating fake news and misinformation. It can cause harm to individuals, communities, and society at large. We urge everyone to verify information before sharing it,” he cautioned.
Sadiq reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to transparency and community partnership, urging residents to report credible information that could aid in combating crime.
