The Ondo State Police Command has arrested three suspected kidnappers following a discreet surveillance operation targeting known abduction routes in the state.
The suspects Abayomi Fayankinu (51), of Okada Area, Edo State; Felix Orka (34), of Ugbogi Area, Edo State; and Abdullahi Ibrahim were apprehended by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad after credible intelligence was received on their activities.
In a statement on Wednesday, the command’s spokesperson, Mr. Olayinka Ayanlade, said the arrests were made as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks threatening security in the region.
“Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad embarked on a coordinated operation which led to the arrest of two suspected kidnappers, Abayomi Fayankinu and Felix Orka,” Ayanlade said.
He added that during interrogation, Fayankinu confessed that one Adebayo, from Ogbomoso, had been working with him as an informant under the guise of providing security intelligence. Fayankinu further revealed that Adebayo had trained him in firearm handling.
The confession led police operatives to Edo State, where another notorious member of the syndicate, Ibukun Jimoh Samson, aged 55, popularly known as Iron Body, was apprehended at the Okada Area.
“A search conducted at his residence yielded one English-made single-barrel gun believed to have been used during their operations,” Ayanlade added.
He explained that the latest arrests were connected to the earlier capture of Abdullahi Ibrahim in Ore, whose confession helped expose a broader network of kidnappers operating along major highways across the South-West.
“His disclosures provided actionable intelligence that guided the operatives to the arrest of other gang members, thereby exposing the full extent of their operations,” Ayanlade stated.
The police spokesman confirmed that all suspects had made voluntary confessional statements detailing their roles in the crime, adding that they would be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation.
In a related development, It was earlier reported that four suspects were arrested and a kidnapped victim rescued in Akure, following a citizen’s tip-off to the police. The operatives reportedly swooped on the suspects, rescuing the victim unharmed.
