BREAKING: COURT HALTS PDP CONVENTION, DIRECTS PARTY TO INCLUDE SULE LAMIDO

The Federal High Court convened in Abuja on Friday instructed the Peoples Democratic Party to postpone its national convention, originally scheduled to occur in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16.

Delivering the ruling in the case brought forth by former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, Justice Peter Lifu prohibited the Independent National Electoral Commission from overseeing, monitoring or acknowledging any convention conducted by the PDP without the inclusion of the plaintiff as a candidate.

Justice Lifu determined that the evidence presented in court demonstrated that Lamido was unfairly denied the chance to obtain a nomination form to vie for the position of National Chairman of the party, contravening the PDP Constitution and its internal policies.

The court affirmed that the PDP was obligated to create avenues for its members to contribute by implementing intentional measures that allow them to pursue their political ambitions.

As a consequential directive, Justice Lifu mandated that the anticipated convention be suspended to permit Lamido to acquire the nomination form, rally supporters, and conduct his campaign.

“An order is hereby issued that prior to any convention taking place, the PDP must make nomination forms accessible to the plaintiff.

“In view of the aforementioned, it is hereby ruled that the convention be delayed to enable the plaintiff to secure a nomination form, campaign, and mobilise supporters,” the judge proclaimed.
