A senior associate of former Anambra State Governor, His Excellency Chief Dr. Willie Maduaburochukwu Obiano, has issued a strong public warning following the circulation of false news alleging the former governor’s death.
In a statement personally signed by Hon. Chief Nweke Christian Afamuefuna (Agujiugo Global), he described the viral claim as “malicious, fake, and crafted to cause fear and confusion among Ndi Anambra and the general public.”
Chief Nweke dismissed the rumour in its entirety, affirming that the former governor popularly known as Odugwu Omambala ji di ebubebis “alive, well, and in good health.” He condemned the perpetrators for what he called a “wicked and irresponsible act,” stressing that death should never be used as a tool for propaganda, clout, or political gamesmanship.
He noted that spreading false reports about an individual’s life or death is not only unethical but also punishable under Nigerian law. Consequently, he issued a 24-hour ultimatum to those behind the rumour to retract the statement and tender a public apology. Failure to comply, he warned, will result in immediate legal action.
Chief Nweke urged members of the public to disregard the fake news and desist from sharing or amplifying it. He encouraged reliance on verified and credible information, emphasizing the need to collectively curb the spread of misinformation.
He further described Chief Dr. Obiano as “a respected leader, elder statesman, and distinguished son of Anambra State,” insisting that his legacy must not be tarnished by baseless rumours.
The statement concludes with a firm reassurance: “Adjust Odugwu Omambala ji di ebube is alive.”
