OFFICER KILLED AS POLICE FOIL KIDNAP ATTEMPT

In Guto Village, border community in Bwari Area Council, the Federal Capital Territory Police Command reported on Thursday that its agents had foiled an attempted kidnapping. The group of roughly thirty armed guys allegedly broke into the neighborhood and tried to break into house. Police officers from the IGP Special Intervention Squad and the Bwari Division Surveillance Team were sent to the location, according to statement from command spokesman Josephine Adeh.

The statement partly read: “The FCT Police Command has successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt in Guto Village, a border community in Bwari Area Council, in the early hours of Wednesday, 20th November 2025.

“At about 1:10 a.m., the Command received a distress call reporting that heavily armed criminals, numbering about 30, had invaded the community with the intent to abduct a resident and members of his family.

“In a swift and coordinated response, operatives of Bwari Division’s Surveillance Team and the IGP Special Intervention Squad immediately mobilized to the scene.

“Upon sighting the responding police teams, the attackers, who had already attempted to forcefully enter the targeted residence, opened fire. The gallant officers engaged the assailants with precision and superior firepower, resulting in a fierce gun duel. Two of the criminals were neutralized, while the remaining fled into the surrounding bushes and mountainous terrain.”
One police officer was shot during the altercation, according to Adeh, and was sent to Bwari General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. “Unfortunately, one police officer was shot and killed during the exchange. He was taken to Bwari General Hospital, where medical professional verified his death,” she stated. This loss is greatly regretted by the Command.
“CP Miller Dantawaye, Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, commends the operatives’ extraordinary bravery, prompt responsiveness, and professionalism throughout the operation. He describes the dead officer as brave hero who gave his life in the line of duty and offers his family, coworkers, and loved ones his sincere sympathies. The CP further guarantees that the Command will keep stepping up its efforts to remove criminal elements from the FCT. “He also encourages all FCT communities to stay vigilant and swiftly report suspicious movements or situations using the Command’s emergency lines, 08032003913, 08068587311. He also thanks the alertness of Guto inhabitants.” Numerous settlements in Bwari Area Council have experienced various sorts of insecurity, making it one of the FCT’s most security-challenged corridors.
The attempted kidnapping in Guto is the latest in a series of incidents highlighting the security pressures facing communities on the outskirts of the capital.
