African Democratic Congress has reaffirmed its determination to participate fully in the 2027 general elections, dismissing claims that it may be unable to field candidates as false and misleading.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the ADC remains committed to presenting credible, competent, and widely accepted candidates for all elective offices in the country.

The clarification followed mixed reactions trailing Thursday’s Supreme Court judgment on the party’s leadership dispute, with some analysts suggesting the ruling could affect the ADC’s ability to participate in the 2027 elections.

The statement also came amid reports that notable political figures, including Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, alongside other ADC stakeholders, may defect to another political platform in the coming days.

Responding to the speculation, the ADC insisted it remains Nigeria’s foremost opposition platform and is focused on mobilisation, nationwide organisation, and preparations aimed at securing victory in 2027.

The party stated that its mission remains rescuing Nigeria from what it described as the failures of the APC-led administration and preventing the country from drifting into a one-party system.

According to the ADC, reports claiming it would be unable to field candidates are baseless, mischievous, and intended to create unnecessary confusion. It stressed that there is no legal barrier preventing the party from participating in the elections.

The party further maintained that it is fully compliant with constitutional provisions and the Electoral Act, adding that any contrary claims were deliberate attempts to misinform the public and weaken the growing support around the party.

Reaffirming its position as a major opposition force, the ADC said it remains focused on strengthening its structures, mobilising Nigerians frustrated by insecurity, economic hardship, and limited opportunities, and preparing not just to contest but to win future elections.

The party also urged members, supporters, and Nigerians to ignore what it described as unfounded speculations capable of distracting it from its political objectives.
