The Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, will challenge the life imprisonment and additional jail terms handed down by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Kanu was convicted on multiple charges and sentenced to life imprisonment on counts one, two, four, five and six. He also received a 20-year prison term on count three and a separate five-year sentence on count seven, both without the option of a fine.

Speaking to reporters after the ruling, Kanu’s former lawyer and consultant, Aloy Ejimakor, confirmed that legal steps would be taken to contest the judgment.

“We are heading to appeal,” Ejimakor stated.

Further details on the appeal process are expected in the coming days.
