Jamie Vardy rolled back the years on Monday night, netting his first brace in Serie A as Cremonese sealed a shock 3–1 victory over high-flying Bologna at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara.

The 38-year-old former Leicester City and England striker delivered two classic poacher’s finishes on a rain-soaked evening, inspiring promoted Cremonese to their first major scalp of the season. The win lifts them to 11th on the table with 17 points, while Bologna suffered their first home defeat of the campaign.

Cremonese opened the scoring in the 31st minute through Martin Payero, and Vardy doubled the lead five minutes later when he raced onto Federico Bonazzoli’s pass and calmly slipped the ball through goalkeeper Federico Ravaglia’s legs.

Bologna briefly looked back in the contest after Riccardo Orsolini converted a stoppage-time penalty to end the first half 2–1.

But Vardy restored Cremonese’s two-goal advantage just four minutes into the second half, darting ahead of Ravaglia to meet Tommaso Barbieri’s first-time pass and scoring his fourth goal in nine appearances for the club.

Vardy joined Cremonese in September on a one-year contract with an option for an additional season if the club secures Serie A survival. He has spoken openly about his desire to embrace Italian football culture with the Giovanni Arvedi-backed side, and Monday’s performance underscored his impact in his debut season in Italy.
