KANO TO USE DRONES FOR BORDER SECURITY

BY UTHMAN MOHAMMED
The governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has shared plans to get drones and more supplies to help watch over and respond quickly in border areas that are at risk from bandit attacks.
This update was shared in a statement released on Wednesday, signed by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Tofa.
In the statement, the governor said he visited the JTF personnel on Tuesday to check how ready they are.
He did this at three bases in Tsanyawa and Shanono Local Government Areas, where bandits recently attacked in a coordinated way.
The visit comes after a long period of rising insecurity along the Kano-Katsina border.
Armed groups have been making repeated attacks, making people worried and leading to more joint efforts by different agencies to deal with the situation.
Governor Yusuf asked people in the affected areas to help security teams by giving them useful information about where the bandits are moving. This will help stop more attacks from happening.
He also said that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was happy with the update about the growing problem and agreed to provide federal support.
The governor told the Joint Task Force to work harder to free the people who were taken hostage in Tsanyawa and Shanono.
“We are aware that they have been attacking innocent communities, especially here in Tsanyawa and Shanono Local Government Areas. Many innocent lives were taken away, and many innocent people were also sent to the bush. “We would secure drones and other logistics for surveillance and rapid response to protect inhabitants of the border areas.”
“I assured you that by God’s grace, those who were kidnapped will be brought back to their families.”
Yusuf told the troops that his visit was to assess the security situation, hold direct engagements with operatives and encourage them to give their best to the ongoing operations.
“This type of insecurity in Kano State is something new; it is something alien that has just been observed in the state, and the government is doing its best to address the situation with the cooperation of security agencies,” the governor added.
He also made sure to say that his government will give all the needed help and support to the security workers on the front lines.
In his statement, he mentioned that during his visit to check on the situation, the governor talked to the families of people who were kidnapped and offered his sympathy.
He promised that they are working harder to get those people back safely.
There have been recent attacks in the two areas, and these attacks led to the kidnapping of between five and ten people.
During one of these attacks, a woman was killed.
