The Ogun State Police Command has rolled out comprehensive security operations aimed at safeguarding lives and property before, during and after the 2025 Christmas and New Year festivities across the state.
The command said the measures form part of its proactive strategy to maintain law and order and ensure a peaceful festive season for residents and visitors.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, announced that the ban on the sale and use of fireworks, knockouts and bangers remains in full force throughout the period.
According to the command, the loud sounds generated by such items are often mistaken for gunshots or explosions, creating fear, panic and unnecessary tension among members of the public.
“The loud sounds produced by fireworks, knockouts and bangers can easily be mistaken for gunshots or explosions, often causing fear, panic and avoidable public disorder,” the statement said.
To strengthen security, the command directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and tactical units to intensify patrols and increase police visibility across strategic locations. These include residential neighbourhoods, markets, motor parks, places of worship, hospitals, entertainment centres and major highways across the state.
The police also advised parents and guardians to caution their children and wards against the use of fireworks and other hazardous materials during the festive period.
Babaseyi warned that anyone found engaging in acts capable of causing public disturbance, injury or damage to property would be arrested and prosecuted in line with the law.
“The Ogun State Police Command will not hesitate to apprehend and prosecute individuals whose actions threaten public safety or disrupt the peace of the state,” he said.
The Commissioner of Police further urged residents to celebrate responsibly and cooperate with security agencies by providing timely information and adhering to safety guidelines.
Residents were encouraged to report suspicious activities and emergencies through the command’s emergency lines, including the toll-free Gateway Shield number 0800 000 9111, as well as 0906 283 7609, 0912 014 1706, 0915 102 7369 and 0708 497 2994.
The command stressed that the full-scale deployment is part of a broader crime prevention strategy aimed at curbing criminal activities, reducing traffic-related incidents and ensuring that all festive celebrations are conducted in a safe, secure and orderly environment across Ogun State.
