ENUGU POLICE FOIL ARMED ROBBERY ATTEMPT, ARREST SUSPECT IN INDEPENDENCE LAYOUT

The Enugu State Police Command has foiled an attempted armed robbery and arrested a 28-year-old suspect near Agric Bank Bus Stop in the Independence Layout area of Enugu metropolis.
The incident was confirmed on Monday in a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, who said the suspect was apprehended following a swift response to a distress call.
According to the police, the suspect, identified as Chimuanya Oshim, was arrested at about 11:30 p.m. on December 13, 2025, by operatives attached to the Independence Layout Police Division.
Ndukwe explained that the operatives arrived at the scene to find the suspect in the act of robbing a member of the public.
“At the scene, operatives caught the suspect robbing a young man and recovered a revolver imitation pistol loaded with eight toy bullets,” he said.
The police spokesperson added that the suspect is currently in custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
He further disclosed that the Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, CP Mamman Giwa, has commended the operatives for their prompt response and urged officers across the command to sustain the tempo in the fight against crime.
“The commissioner has charged officers and men of the command to remain proactive and make the state uninhabitable for unrepentant criminals,” Ndukwe stated.
He also called on residents to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information to aid crime prevention and detection across the state.
The latest arrest comes amid intensified security operations by the Enugu State Police Command. The command had earlier announced the arrest of six suspected cult members who were allegedly attempting to force victims into the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, with weapons and other incriminating items recovered during the operation.
