The Ogun State Police Command has announced a scheduled shooting range exercise for its officers, set to take place on Tuesday at the 35 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Alamala, Abeokuta.
The exercise was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, who said the training forms part of the Command’s ongoing capacity-building programme aimed at enhancing operational readiness and improving officers’ marksmanship skills.
Babaseyi explained that the exercise would involve live firing and could result in the sound of gunshots within and around the training area.
He therefore advised residents, commuters and members of the public in Alamala and its environs to exercise caution and avoid the vicinity of the shooting range for the duration of the exercise.
“The Ogun State Police Command wishes to inform the general public, especially residents and commuters around Alamala, Abeokuta, that a shooting range exercise will be conducted on Tuesday at the 35 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army,” the statement read.
“The exercise is part of our training programme to enhance operational readiness and marksmanship skills of officers. Members of the public are advised not to panic or be alarmed by the sound of gunfire during the period.”
The police assured the public that adequate safety measures have been put in place to ensure that the exercise is carried out without risk to lives or property.
“The command assures everyone that strict safety measures have been put in place, and the expected gunfire sounds should not cause any form of panic,” Babaseyi added.
He appealed for the cooperation and understanding of residents to ensure the smooth and safe conduct of the training.
The police spokesperson also encouraged members of the public to remain security conscious and to promptly report any suspicious movements or security concerns to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency channels.
The Ogun State Police Command reiterated that the exercise is strictly a routine training activity and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace, public safety and effective policing across the state.
