GAS PIPELINE REPAIRS NEAR COMPLETION AS POWER SUPPLY SET TO IMPROVE – NISO

The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has assured Nigerians of an imminent improvement in electricity supply following the near completion of repair works on the vandalised Escravos–Lagos Gas Pipeline.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, NISO said it is closely monitoring ongoing restoration efforts being carried out by the Nigerian Gas Processing and Transportation Company (NGPTC), a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), after the recent explosion on the pipeline disrupted gas supply to power plants.
The incident, according to the system operator, led to a significant drop in electricity generation as several gas-fired power stations recorded low output, resulting in reduced generation capacity on the national grid and widespread power shortages.
NISO noted that it has maintained close engagement with NGPTC and has received assurances that repair work on the affected pipeline is nearing completion.
“The vandalised pipeline is expected to be fully operational within the next 20 to 48 hours,” the statement said, adding that this would enable affected power plants to resume operations and restore electricity supply across the country.
The system operator reaffirmed its commitment to keeping the public and power sector stakeholders informed while working with relevant agencies to ensure stability and reliability of the national grid.
