President Bola Tinubu on Saturday made a colourful appearance at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, as he joined residents and tourists in celebrating the ongoing Eyo Festival, marking a significant return of the cultural event after several years.

The President’s presence added prestige to the festival, which was last held in 2017. Dressed in line with the traditional theme of the Eyo Festival, Tinubu appeared in an all-white outfit, symbolising purity and peace, key elements of the historic Lagos celebration.

He complemented his attire with a black Akete hat decorated with white stripes and stars, while a black-and-white cloth was draped over his shoulder, reflecting deep-rooted Yoruba cultural symbolism.

On arrival at the Tafawa Balewa Square, the President was received by Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, alongside the Deputy Governor, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, and other state officials.

The festival featured colourful processions as residents, visitors, and tourists gathered to witness the iconic display of white-clad Eyo masquerades, accompanied by rhythmic chants and energetic dances.

Renowned as one of Lagos’ most celebrated cultural heritage events, the Eyo Festival showcases rich Yoruba traditions and serves as a symbol of unity, history, and identity for the people of Lagos State.
