JUST IN: POLICE ARRAIGN DRIVER OF ANTHONY JOSHUA’S CAR IN COURT, CASE ADJOURNED TO JAN 20

The Ogun State Police Command has arraigned the driver involved in the fatal accident that claimed the lives of two associates of former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua.
Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, who was driving a Lexus SUV at the time, appeared before the Sagamu Magistrate Court on Friday, 2nd January 2026.
The case has been adjourned to 20th January 2026.
Confirming the arraignment in a statement on X on Friday, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, Police Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Command, said, “This update serves to inform the general public that the driver of the Lexus SUV involved in the Anthony Joshua accident case, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, was charged to the Sagamu Magistrate Court today. Investigations are ongoing.”
The tragic crash occurred on Monday, 30th December 2025, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway when the Lexus SUV collided with a stationary truck while transporting Joshua and his friends, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami. Both Ayodele and Ghami died at the scene, while Joshua and the driver sustained minor injuries.
Joshua was discharged from the hospital late Wednesday evening and returned home to continue his recovery. He and his mother reportedly visited the funeral home in Lagos to pay their final respects to the deceased as their bodies were prepared for repatriation.
In a joint statement, Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, and Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, extended condolences to the families of the victims.
They also thanked medical personnel who treated the injured, praising their professionalism and care.
The arraignment marks a key step in the ongoing investigation into the high-profile accident, which has drawn national attention and renewed discussions on road safety along major highways.
