The Benue State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested six individuals suspected of vandalising PHCN/TCN cables at Apir, opposite the NNPC Depot.
The operation was carried out through a coordinated effort between NSCDC personnel and local youths in the Apir community.
The arrested suspects are Shiaondo David Iorshenge, identified as the prime suspect, Terungwa Asombo, Nomyar Bemdoo, Tyoakura Apino Christopher, Terhemba Iortuhwa Victor, and Musa Abdullahi.
The arrests follow stern warnings from Benue State NSCDC Commandant, Bitrus, to criminal elements seeking to exploit the Yuletide season for illegal activities targeting critical national infrastructure.
“In a proactive measure to ensure public safety and safeguard government assets at all levels, I deployed 1,780 personnel across all 23 Local Government Areas of the state during the festive period,” the Commandant said.
She praised the officers for their dedication and urged host communities to actively monitor and protect assets that directly serve their interests.
“Let this serve as a clear warning to enemies of national security: Benue State will not be a safe haven for criminal activities. The protection of critical national assets and infrastructure is non-negotiable,” she added.
Bitrus confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that the suspects will face prosecution in court.
