The Katsina State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) reported the arrest of 1,018 suspects and the seizure of more than 2.4 tonnes of illicit drugs across the state in 2025.

State Commander Mr. Samaila Danmalam disclosed this on Tuesday during the command’s end-of-year press briefing in Katsina.

He said the arrests and confiscations were achieved through intelligence-led operations and patrols across multiple locations, targeting drug trafficking networks and efforts to reduce substance abuse in the state.

He stated that the arrests involved 992 males and 26 females.

The NDLEA commander disclosed that a total of 2,473.755 kilograms of illicit substances were seized, including 1,667.747kg of cannabis sativa, 793.66kg of psychotropic drugs, and 12.348kg of codeine syrup.

Regarding prosecutions, Danmalam said 86 suspects were arraigned in court during the year, resulting in 87 convictions, attributing the success to enhanced coordination between investigators and prosecutors.

He added that the command intensified its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign, reaching 75,135 people through 203 sensitisation programmes in 2025.

Furthermore, 451 drug users were counselled, and 58 clients were admitted for rehabilitation.

Despite these achievements, Danmalam noted operational challenges, including insufficient vehicles, inadequate office infrastructure, and limited accommodation for officers.

He called for support to address these issues and reassured residents that the NDLEA would continue its efforts to combat drug abuse and trafficking in Katsina State.
