Alhaji Lawal Daura, former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), has officially announced his intention to contest the 2027 Katsina State governorship election.
In an interview with DCL Hausa, Daura stated that he had completed consultations regarding his political ambition and would disclose the party under which he plans to run in due course.
He cited the worsening security situation in Katsina and the perceived underperformance of the current administration as key factors driving his decision to enter active politics. Daura also noted that appeals from stakeholders encouraged him to take up the challenge.
“I was invited to step forward and help address the deteriorating security situation in the state by contesting for governorship,” Daura said. “Initially, I hesitated, but considering the circumstances under which I was approached, I realised I could not decline.”
He emphasised that he would not have accepted the governorship challenge if a more qualified candidate was available, saying, “If someone better suited had emerged, I would have supported them.”
Daura confirmed that consultations on his political platform have concluded and assured the public that the party he will represent will be announced at the appropriate time.
Reflecting on the current administration, he added that while it had fulfilled its role, it was time for new leadership to steer Katsina State forward.
