GUN BATTLE WITH POLICE LEAVES SUSPECTED KIDNAPPER DEAD IN DELTA

A suspected kidnapper has died following a gun battle with operatives of the Delta State Police Command.
According to a statement from the Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, the suspect succumbed to injuries at the hospital where he was rushed for treatment. The incident occurred on January 6, 2026.
The police said intelligence received by the CP Special Assignment Team led them to Ohoror community along Ughelli-Patani Road, where the suspected kidnappers were spotted.
“The suspects opened fire upon sighting the police, prompting a gun duel during which one of them was hit and sustained serious injuries,” the statement read.
During a search of the area, officers recovered one K-2 rifle, two locally made guns, live ammunition, and cartridges hidden in a bag.
“The injured suspect was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the attending doctor. A manhunt for the fleeing suspects is ongoing,” SP Edafe added.
