Pastor Okafor emphasized that marriage is not a remedy for a wandering eye, warning that a man lacking discipline will continue to pursue women. He urged men to value character over physical appearance, questioning why so many focus solely on attractive faces.
The sermon comes at a sensitive time for the cleric, who is currently facing a ₦1 billion lawsuit filed by Nollywood actress Doris Ogala.
A video of Pastor Chris Okafor delivering a sermon on discipline and sexual self-control amid an ongoing police investigation has gone viral.
The development follows confirmation from the Nigerian police that Pastor Chris Okafor appeared for questioning at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Panti, Lagos. The cleric had initially resisted the summons, believing he could ignore it because a related case involving actress Doris Ogala was already being addressed at the Zone 2 Command in Onikan.
He identified unchecked desire as a key reason why many people repeatedly encounter trouble. In a sermon, the clergyman noted that both men and women struggle in life not because temptation is uncommon, but because many fail to exercise control over their impulses.
Citing a Bible passage cautioning against judging by appearances, Pastor Okafor urged people not to evaluate potential partners solely on their physical looks.
He asked the congregation, “You say she is beautiful, but what about her character? You say he is handsome, but what about his altar?” Pastor Okafor explained that many people make decisions driven by looks, wealth, or charm, only to later realize these choices stemmed from unchecked desire rather than wisdom. He emphasized that true maturity lies in discipline, the ability to say no even when temptation arises and warned against the common assumption that marriage alone will prevent a man from pursuing other women.
He stated: “Married or unmarried, if a man is not disciplined, he will still chase women everywhere. In the plane, in the malls, even women who just need help.”
He expressed concern that some of the most troubling cases occur within the church, where a few men turn places of worship into hunting grounds, disrupting the peace of female congregants.
