Aliko Dangote, Chairman of Dangote Industries, has reportedly taken former Managing Director of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Farouk Ahmed, to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of corruption.

The Dangote Group confirmed the development in a statement released on Friday.

The company had previously filed a petition with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), calling for an investigation into Ahmed for allegedly spending $5 million on his children’s secondary education in Switzerland.

A statement on Friday explained that Dangote’s petition to the EFCC came after the withdrawal of the earlier complaint from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), describing it as “a strategic move to fast-track the prosecution process.”

The petition, signed by Lead Counsel Dr. O.J. Onoja, called on the EFCC to investigate Farouk Ahmed for alleged abuse of office and corrupt enrichment, and to prosecute him if found guilty.
