Abductors of two residents of Ora Igbomina, a community in Osun State bordering Kwara State, have demanded a ransom of ₦100 million for the release of their victims.

The victims, identified as Tayese Adeyeye and Sunday Adewumi, were kidnapped by gunmen suspected to be bandits during an attack on a private residence along Aran-Orin Road in the Papa area of the town late on Sunday, February 1.

According to residents, the assailants struck shortly before midnight, storming the house and firing shots into the air to cause panic before forcefully taking the victims into the bush.

Following the incident, the Osun State Police Command announced that it had launched a manhunt for the perpetrators.

However, sources close to the victims’ families told The media on Monday that the abductors had contacted them and demanded ₦100 million for the release of the two men. One of the sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity for security reasons, said the kidnappers reached out through the mobile phone of one of the abducted victims.

“They contacted us using the phone of one of the men they abducted and demanded ₦100 million. We do not have such an amount and are praying they will reduce the ransom,” the source said.

When contacted for updates, the Osun State Police Command spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, stated that search-and-rescue operations were still ongoing. He added that the command had not been officially informed of any ransom demand, noting that the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gothan, had ordered additional deployments to the community to facilitate the victims’ rescue.

Ora Igbomina has witnessed repeated attacks by suspected bandits, who reportedly access the area through the Kwara State boundary. The latest abduction has further heightened fear among residents, coming less than two months after a former Customs officer, Emmanuel Owolabi, was kidnapped from his residence in the town and later released after a ransom was reportedly paid.
