Abuja residents on Monday evening enjoyed a welcome break from weeks of intense heat as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) recorded its first rainfall of 2026.
The brief downpour, which started at about 5:11 p.m. and ended around 5:41 p.m., was experienced in several parts of the city, including Lugbe, Jabi, and Life Camp. The rainfall provided temporary relief from high temperatures, which had been aggravated by unstable electricity supply.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast a mix of sunny and cloudy conditions across the country from Monday to Wednesday. In its weather outlook released on Sunday, the agency predicted mostly sunny skies with periods of cloudiness over the northern region, with similar conditions expected in other parts of the country.
For the southern region, NiMet projected sunny conditions with cloud patches and isolated thunderstorms, accompanied by light rainfall in states such as Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River later in the day.
On Tuesday, NiMet expects sunny and hazy weather over the northern and central regions, while parts of the south may experience morning thunderstorms with light rain in Ogun, Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states. Thunderstorms are also forecast later in the day over parts of Ondo, Ogun, Imo, Delta, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Bayelsa.
The agency advised residents, especially those in areas prone to thunderstorms and strong winds, to take necessary safety precautions.
