The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a China-based Nigerian businessman, Ibeanu Vincent Chukwudulue, along with two Angolan nationals, Mbandu Martins Makiadi and Ngoma Wilson Fernando, for drug trafficking.

According to the NDLEA, the suspects excreted a total of 236 cocaine wraps following their apprehension at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, and Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano. The announcement was made in a statement by Femi Babafemi, Director of Media & Advocacy at NDLEA Headquarters, Abuja.

Ibeanu was intercepted on Wednesday aboard Qatar Airways flight 1432 from Kano to China via Abuja and Doha. Acting on credible intelligence, NDLEA officers in Abuja had him deboarded and subjected to a body scan, which confirmed ingestion of illicit drugs. Under observation, he excreted 52 cocaine pellets weighing 735.95 grams. Ibeanu disclosed that he had previously conducted business on Lagos Island before relocating to Guangzhou, China in 2024.

The two Angolans, Mbandu Martins Makiadi, 50, and Ngoma Wilson Fernando, 52, were intercepted at the departure hall of Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport during outbound clearance for a flight to Istanbul via Addis Ababa. Both tested positive for drug ingestion and were observed until they excreted their respective consignments—Mbandu expelled 76 wraps weighing 920 grams in seven sessions, while Ngoma expelled 108 wraps weighing 1.33 kilograms over five sessions. The suspects, from Hoji Ya Henda in Luanda, claimed they were recruited by a Luanda-based automobile spare parts dealer, who promised $3,000 each upon delivery in Turkey.

In a separate case, NDLEA thwarted an attempt by convicted drug kingpin Olashupo Michael Oladimeji to export 1.10 kilograms of cocaine hidden in processed cassava (Garri) to London. Oladimeji, CEO of Dimeji Express Logistics in Lagos, is currently serving a five-year sentence for a previous 17.90kg cocaine trafficking conviction. His scheme was uncovered on 12 February at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, when his staff, Adedeji Yusuf Gbolahan, was arrested while presenting the consignment for export.

Similarly, a 44-year-old estate surveyor, Adelaja Taiwo Adetayo, attempted to export 1.70 kilograms of skunk cannabis concealed in jerry cans to the UK. NDLEA operatives intercepted the consignment at Lagos airport, arresting both the cargo agent, Mustapha Quddus Opeyemi, and Adelaja in follow-up operations.

Other seizures included two parcels of Cannabis (59.2 grams) hidden inside a children’s toy guitar sent from Enugu to Abuja, resulting in the arrest of Henry Onuma; the raid of a Lekki duplex for production and storage of 13.2 kilograms of Colorado synthetic cannabis, alongside precursor chemicals; and the arrest of female dealer Oluwayemisi Bunmi in Ibadan with 1.189kg Colos, 320 grams of methamphetamine, ₦2,975,000 in cash, and two vehicles.

In Kwara State, 105,400 tramadol pills were recovered from Kamilu Abdullahi, while in Edo State, five suspects were arrested after 563.5 kilograms of skunk were seized at Yoruba Camp, Olumoye Forest, Ovia North East LGA.

NDLEA Chairman/CEO, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the officers involved in Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Edo, Kwara, FCT, and Oyo for their professionalism and encouraged continued efforts in both drug supply reduction and demand reduction initiatives nationwide.
