Garga in Kanam Local Government Area has been attacked by terrorists, leaving one person dead and several cattle rustled.
The assault, reported to have occurred on Monday evening, has caused widespread panic, with many residents fleeing to safer areas.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers arrived on motorcycles and opened fire on innocent residents. Suleiman Dayyabu, a Garga resident, confirmed to our correspondent that livestock were also stolen during the raid.
Dayyabu stated, “It is true, one person was killed and another injured. He has been rushed to the hospital, and we do not yet know his condition. A team of vigilantes and hunters are currently pursuing the attackers.”
Messages circulating on social media called for immediate security intervention, urging government authorities and security agencies to act.

One such message read:
“It is with a heavy heart and deep concern that we raise this urgent alarm to security agencies, government authorities, and all relevant stakeholders.
Garga town is under attack by bandits this evening, Monday, 16th February 2026. Reports indicate armed attackers stormed the community, shooting sporadically, causing panic, and forcing many to flee.
We appeal to all security formations, including the Nigerian Army, Police, Civil Defence, and local vigilantes and hunters from neighbouring communities, to mobilize immediately to rescue Garga and prevent further loss of lives.”
Dayyabu also called for more proactive measures from the government, noting that security agencies often respond only after attacks occur. “Three security vehicles have arrived in Garga, but the government and security agencies could have acted earlier to prevent this situation,” he said.
When contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer, Alfred Alabo, said, “I have not been briefed. You are just telling me now; I will find out.”
Last week, the Nigerian Army deployed 300 Special Forces to Plateau State to strengthen security in vulnerable communities.
