The West African Examinations Council has released the results for the 2025 Second Series of the Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates, revealing an 11.47-percentage-point decline compared to 2024.

In a statement on Monday night, WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, disclosed that 42.17% of candidates achieved credit passes in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, down from 53.64% in 2024 and 44.29% in 2023.

Out of 65,752 candidates who sat the examination, 27,727 secured the five-credit benchmark. WAEC noted that performance among private candidates differs from school candidates, as private candidates are outside the formal school system.

Further analysis showed that 33,989 candidates (51.69%) earned credit passes in at least five subjects, with or without English Language and Mathematics. A total of 69,604 candidates registered, marking a 1.8% increase from 68,342 in 2024, with 65,752 sitting the exams at 370 centres nationwide.

WAEC confirmed that results for 61,943 candidates (94.21%) have been fully processed and released, while 3,809 candidates (5.79%) are awaiting completion of subject processing due to errors traceable to them.

The examination was conducted from November 11 to December 17, 2025. Candidates have been advised to check their results online, access digital certificates, or request hard copies via WAEC’s certificate portal.

WAEC reaffirmed its commitment to quality service delivery and transparency for all stakeholders.
