14 FEARED DEAD AFTER WEDDING PARTY BOAT SINKS IN KEBBI

Fourteen people have lost their lives following a boat accident in Yauri Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The incident occurred at Gumbi village in Gumbi Ward after the victims had escorted a bride to her matrimonial home in Gwarzo village, Ngaski LGA.

While returning from the celebration, the boat conveying more than 100 passengers overturned, plunging them into the water. The tragedy claimed the lives of 13 women and one child.

Governor Nasir Idris, who was represented at the funeral prayer by the Chairman of Yauri Local Government, Abubakar Shu’aibu, expressed condolences to the bereaved families, the local government authorities, the emirate, and the entire Yauri community. He urged them to accept the incident as the will of God.

He also prayed for the forgiveness of the deceased and for their admission into Jannatul Firdaus.

All the victims were laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rites.

The accident is the latest in a string of boat mishaps in the area, heightening concerns about safety along the river routes.
