SIERRA LEONE POLICE ARREST NIGERIAN AT FREETOWN AIRPORT OVER ALLEGED COCAINE POSSESSION

The Sierra Leone Police has arrested a Nigerian national, Patrick Nonso, at Freetown International Airport after he was allegedly found in possession of 46 wraps of a white substance suspected to be cocaine.
According to a Sierra Leonean news platform, Sierraloaded, the suspect was apprehended on Sunday, February 22, 2026, during routine airport screening.
The report stated that authorities discovered the suspected narcotics during routine checks at the airport. Nonso, who was reportedly travelling with an Italian passport at the time of his arrest, was immediately taken into custody.
Providing an update, police authorities were quoted as saying that the suspect is currently in custody and cooperating fully with investigators.
An investigation has been launched to determine the origin of the suspected narcotics and to establish whether other individuals may be involved. Officials also disclosed that no formal charges have yet been announced, as forensic analysis is ongoing to confirm the exact composition and weight of the seized substance.
Investigators are reviewing the suspect’s travel and immigration records as part of the probe, while airport security officials are said to be cooperating with law enforcement in line with established protocols for handling suspected controlled substances.
Police authorities assured that further updates would be provided as investigations progress.
