President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu have described the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Enoch Adeboye, as “one of our nation’s greatest gifts” as he marked his 84th birthday on Sunday.

In a joint tribute released by the State House, the presidential couple praised Pastor Adeboye, fondly known as Daddy G.O., as “a spiritual fortress, interceding for Nigeria and its people to God Almighty.”

The tribute highlighted his humility, wisdom, and far-reaching contributions beyond the pulpit, noting his impact in philanthropy, healthcare, education, and economic empowerment.

President Tinubu commended the cleric for his “unceasing prayers for our nation” and acknowledged his “patriotic zeal, manifest determination and commitment to Nigeria’s progress.”

Born on March 2, 1942, in Ifewara, Osun State, Adeboye holds a doctorate in Applied Mathematics from the University of Lagos. He joined the RCCG in 1973 and became its General Overseer in 1981, succeeding the church’s founder, Josiah Akindayomi.

Under his leadership of over four decades, the RCCG has expanded from a modest congregation in Lagos to one of the world’s largest Pentecostal denominations, with parishes in more than 190 countries.

The church’s monthly Holy Ghost Service at the Redemption Camp along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway attracts millions of worshippers and is regarded as one of the largest Christian gatherings globally.

Beyond pastoral work, Adeboye founded Redeemer’s University and has overseen numerous educational and healthcare initiatives through RCCG-affiliated foundations.

The President and First Lady joined Adeboye’s wife, RCCG members worldwide, and the Christian community in thanking God for what they described as his “exceptional life of impact that transcends cultures and borders,” praying for continued good health and strength as he carries on his ministry.
