The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has announced plans to enforce compliance among residents who violate land use regulations and default on ground rent payments.

The announcement followed decisions taken at the FCT Executive Committee meeting on Monday, chaired by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike at his official residence in Life Camp.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Director of the Department of Lands Administration, Mr. Chijioke Nwankwoeze, noted that defaulters had been given ample time to comply, prompting the administration to now take action against non-compliance.

Mr. Nwankwoeze also provided an update on the issuance of Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) in the FCT, highlighting that the process has significantly improved.

“Previously, obtaining a C of O could take years or even decades. Today, the process can be completed in as little as one week. The Minister signs the C of Os promptly — once submitted, they are returned within two days,” he said.

He attributed delays in C of O issuance to issues such as failure to submit passport photographs, not responding to offers of Rights of Occupancy within the 21-day period, unconfirmed Remita payments, and the use of unverifiable addresses like P.O. Boxes instead of physical locations.

Meanwhile, three memoranda were presented and ratified by the committee:

Approval for the purchase of diesel for waste disposal and management plants in Mabushi, Jabi, Durumi, and Wuye districts.

Ratification and procurement of food and non-food items for victims of flood-affected areas in the FCT.

Approval and ratification of the contract for the supply of communication gadgets and other equipment to support FCT security agencies.

Elaborating on the memoranda, Chief Felix Obuah, Coordinator of AMMC, said the diesel purchase for the waste management plants will cost N7.3 billion.

Alhaji Musa Idris, Director of the FCT Department of Procurement, disclosed that the supply of communication gadgets and equipment for security agencies will cost N1.133 billion, aimed at enhancing their operations in securing the FCT.

Also addressing journalists, Chief of Staff to the Minister, Chidi Amadi, expressed gratitude to the media for consistently reporting on the policies and programs of the FCT Administration.
