Bayero University Kano Threatens to Impound Stray Animals, Warns Owners of Sanctions
Bayero University Kano (BUK) has announced plans to seize stray animals found wandering its campuses and penalize their owners.
In a statement on Tuesday, Lamara Garba, the university’s Director of Public Affairs, speaking on behalf of the Registrar, reiterated that “the rearing of animals within the university premises is strictly prohibited” according to the Revised Guidelines for Staff Housing Allocation and Maintenance.
The university said the enforcement action aims to uphold housing regulations and promote environmental hygiene within staff quarters.
It further cautioned that residents allowed to keep the minimum number of domestic animals must ensure they are properly confined.
“Permitting animals to wander freely on campus breaches university regulations and raises environmental, health, and safety risks,” the statement said.
The university management announced that its Security Division “will promptly begin the arrest and impoundment of stray animals found on campus.”
It added that the owners of these animals “will be traced and held responsible according to existing regulations.”
The university management also cautioned that individuals violating the directive would face sanctions in line with the Staff Quarters Residency Guidelines.
Residents of the Old and New Campuses, Zoo Road Staff Quarters, and the School of Continuing Education were urged to fully comply, with the university emphasizing that the measures are essential to “preserve order, hygiene, and the integrity of the campus environment.”
