Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has declared that he would rather sacrifice his life than betray his political mentor and predecessor, Ibrahim Gaidam.

Buni made the statement on Tuesday while addressing delegates at the recently concluded All Progressives Congress (APC) congress in Damaturu, the state capital.

“I would rather die than betray him. I am deeply grateful for the role he played in my political journey. I will never forget my roots, and I will never turn my back on the man who trusted and supported me,” the governor said.

He emphasized that his political career has been built on trust, asserting that betrayal has never been part of his record.

“I am a product of trust. Betrayal is not part of my record, and I have never wronged anyone. I want to be remembered as someone who remains loyal and never betrays,” he added.

The governor urged newly elected party officials to stay committed, emphasizing the importance of upholding trust and integrity in carrying out their duties.

He also highlighted the achievements of his administration over the past seven years, particularly in education, primary healthcare, empowerment, and commerce, assuring residents that these sectors would continue to be prioritized.

On the matter of succession, Buni encouraged APC members in the state to seek divine guidance in selecting the party’s next governorship candidate.

He called on party faithful to back a candidate capable of uniting members and continuing the “good works” of his administration.
