ISRAEL AND US ESCALATE STRIKES ON IRAN AS KURDISH FORCES PREPARE TO ENTER CONFLICT

Israel and the United States have stepped up airstrikes across Iran for a sixth consecutive day, hitting hospitals, schools, homes, stadiums, and cultural landmarks, resulting in extensive destruction and civilian casualties.
Tehran and other major cities have borne the brunt of the attacks, with sites such as Azadi Stadium, Tehran Grand Bazaar, and Golestan Palace among those targeted.
Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that 33 civilian sites were directly struck, while the Iranian Red Crescent said over 3,600 locations nationwide sustained damage, including more than 3,000 homes, 528 commercial centres, 13 medical facilities, and nine Red Crescent centres. Hospitals, including Khatam, Gandhi, and Valiasr Burn Hospital, were severely damaged, leaving some nonoperational and injuring patients.

The World Health Organization confirmed 13 attacks on healthcare facilities, resulting in the deaths of four health workers and injuries to 25 others.
Since Saturday, the death toll from the strikes has reached at least 1,230, as Israel has expanded attacks into Lebanon. Additionally, a US submarine reportedly torpedoed the Iranian frigate Iris Dena near Sri Lanka, killing 87 and rescuing 32.
Amid the bombardment, Kurdish fighters have begun moving from Iraq into western Iran, which Tehran describes as a CIA-backed insurgency. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has called for stronger border security.
Reports suggest the US is negotiating with Kurdish leaders to support attacks aimed at destabilizing the Iranian government, following former President Donald Trump’s earlier calls for popular uprisings. Despite days of airstrikes, no widespread civilian revolt has occurred, prompting the US to concentrate on the Kurdish minority in Iran’s western provinces.
