Popular Nigerian singer Joeboy has revealed that breaking into the mainstream music industry has become more challenging than it was a few years ago.

He expressed concern for emerging talents who are just starting their careers amid these changing dynamics.

In a recent interview with the media, Joeboy explained that, unlike in the past when good music and branding were sufficient, today’s aspiring artists must be social media-savvy and cultivate an influencer-like presence to succeed.

“I genuinely feel for artists trying to go mainstream right now because, unlike before, it takes much more. It now depends on your personality and visibility. Today, you have to be everywhere and in everyone’s faces,” he said.

“Back then, having great music, a strong brand, and effective marketing gave you a higher chance of breaking through. Now, it demands so much more,” he added.

Joeboy advised up-and-coming artists to leverage social media platforms such as TikTok to promote their music and connect with audiences.
