Fermin Lopez and Marcus Rashford scored as Barcelona moved closer to securing the La Liga title with a 2-0 victory over Getafe on Saturday.

The reigning champions extended their lead at the top of the table to 11 points ahead of second-placed Real Madrid, whose title hopes suffered a setback after a draw against Real Betis on Friday.

Under coach Hansi Flick, Barcelona could clinch a second successive league title next weekend if they defeat Osasuna and Real Madrid fail to overcome Espanyol.

Despite missing key attackers Lamine Yamal and Raphinha through injury, Barcelona produced enough quality to overcome Jose Bordalas’ resilient Getafe side in the Madrid suburbs.

Getafe attempted to disrupt Barcelona’s rhythm with persistent fouls, making it difficult for the visitors to create clear-cut chances.

Dani Olmo fashioned the first notable opening after a skilful run into the box, but his effort drifted wide of the far post.

Barcelona eventually broke the deadlock shortly before half-time when Pedri threaded a pass into Lopez.

Lopez, who wore a protective face mask following an injury sustained in a collision with Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Juan Musso during Barcelona’s recent Champions League exit, kept his composure to finish calmly.

The midfielder celebrated by mimicking Yamal’s trademark “304” gesture in tribute to the injured teenager.

As Getafe pushed forward in search of an equaliser after the restart, Barcelona found more space in attack.

Goalkeeper David Soria denied Olmo after he connected with a cross from Jules Kounde, while the French defender later headed narrowly wide from a Joao Cancelo delivery.

Getafe threatened through Martin Satriano, but Rashford — currently on loan from Manchester United — sealed the victory late on.

Robert Lewandowski released the England forward with a well-timed pass, allowing Rashford to race through on goal and slot a low finish beyond Soria to edge Barcelona closer to the title.
