United States President, Donald Trump, has cancelled a planned visit by his envoys to Pakistan for peace talks with Iran, raising fresh uncertainty over diplomatic efforts to end the ongoing conflict.

The cancelled trip was expected to involve US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner meeting Iranian representatives in Islamabad in a bid to advance negotiations. However, Trump said he called off the mission, dismissing the need for further prolonged discussions.

“We have all the cards. They can call us anytime they want,” Trump said, adding that the decision did not signal an immediate escalation of hostilities between the United States, Israel, and Iran.

The development came shortly after Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, concluded a diplomatic visit to Pakistan, where he held talks with top officials including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and military chief Asim Munir. Araghchi described the visit as “very fruitful,” noting that Iran had outlined a framework aimed at permanently ending the war.

Despite these efforts, prospects for renewed dialogue remain uncertain, with Iran indicating reluctance to engage directly with the US while a naval blockade remains in place.

Tensions have further intensified over the continued closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping route for oil and gas. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards reiterated their commitment to maintaining control over the waterway, describing it as a key strategic lever.

The prolonged disruption has unsettled global energy markets and drawn international concern. Antonio Costa called for the immediate reopening of the strait, stressing its importance to global economic stability.

Meanwhile, diplomatic developments on other fronts have yielded limited progress. Although Trump recently announced a three-week ceasefire extension in Lebanon, violence persists, with Israeli strikes reportedly continuing in parts of southern Lebanon.

As diplomatic channels falter and military tensions linger, uncertainty continues to surround the prospects for a comprehensive resolution to the conflict.
